ppp compression schemes

(If this is to be placed on the linux-ppp list while it deals with
low-level, kernel-inherent ppp code, please tell me so.)

I have been using ppp for a very long time now and there are three
issues:

a) the kernel documentation should include an up-to-date version of the
required 2.1-kernel ppp source code patches as in
linux/Documentation/networking/ppp.txt. I can fix this issue, however,
I do not yet know how to submit patches for direct inclusion into the
sources to Linus.

b) the file mentioned above should bear the appropriate conf.modules
alias lines for ppp-compress-21, -24 and -26.

c) compression. Besides SLiRP, I haven't seen any ISDN dialup router
negotiating compression via CCP. This may be due to Ascend not
supporting "free" compression schemes or Linux not supporting Stac,
while Ascend <-> Windows 95 OSR 2 negotiates compression.

Is there any way to either make Ascend include ppp-deflate or
bsd-compress support or to make Linux include stac compression?
