I've run into it on three ocasions.. Once I was working on a MRI
volumeteric dataset.. And the other two times I was dealing with
multimedia data.. 2gb limit is a problem on workstations more then
servers, as server apps can work around it easier.. (I've had a postgres
database with more then 2gigs if data in it.. but it uses multiple files.)
