PLIP : question & problem

I tried to use the plip interface. When I modprobe plip an a 2.1.127,
it says

/lib/modules/2.1.127/net/plip.o: init_module: Device or resource busy

What is wrong? (parport goes in fine).

I alse wonder if the Mode 1 (8 bit cable) is supportred in 2.0.x
kernels?
