PPP stalls return in 2.1.128 for me

Another datapoint:

I have experienced PPP stalls with varying intensity in the development
kernels. The only diagnostic I have is the RX errors field in the
ifconfig report, which climbs quite rapidly (I am typing this email over a
ppp link and have gotten 3 framing errors typing the message to this
point!). All of the errors tally into the "frame" field in ifconfig.

The odd thing is that these errors were SEVERE under 2.1.124, and GONE in
2.1.127 and now are back in 2.1.128. I get 13 errors transferring a 100k
file on an unloaded system (X Windows running but nothing actually
actively changing display data, background processes only etc.)

I am using a 56k X2 link, so line quality COULD be a factor, but for at
least a week I saw 0 errors in 2.1.127, completely solid transfers, and
after a reboot it completely changes.

A quick system description: PPro 200, 96MB ram, RedHat 5.1 plus some
upgrades (ppp 2.3.5 for one). Three old IDE HD, all with hdparm -u 1 set.
Stock 2.1.128 kernel. PPP peer is linux 2.0.30, ppp 2.2.0f I think...

If anyone wants me to cross-check against different versions of kernel, or
different options let me know what I can do.

Thanks.
