In looking deeper, I found that the drive was sending a 'UNIT ATTENTION'
code back whenever the PAGE_CAPABILITIES was requested. Now, the ide-cd
would silently fail when it couldn't get this page (instead of
complaining, saying you have a ide cdrom drive that fails
page_capabilities)
I'm trying to figure out what the heck is wrong with the drive (any
clues? and linux programs that can probe this sucker?)
But, I think ide-cd shouldn't fail silently when the drive isn't ATAPI
compliant; it should complain LOUDLY, or put a set of default values
(like 2.0.xx does) in place. (otherwise, we will be seeing a multitude
of questions about why my ide-cdrom drive doesn't work..)
Any clues?
