I don't know if it's significant, but my Pentium Pro was doing that until I
commented out "SMP = 1" in the top level make file and rebuilt everything.
Even a "make clean" didn't clean it enough - I did a "make mrproper" although
that might have been overkill. My Pentium II had no problems with SMP=1.
