broken menuconfig in 2.0.36

make menuconfig on 2.0.36 shows broken menus for me.
It seems that it's imposed by line 148 in linux/scripts/lxdialog/menubox.c
for main menu. Ncurses is 4.2, compiled dynamic. It's slackware 3.5.
