Three things.

1)
2.1.129 + the "UPflu" fix from linux survived half hour of attack of
my fast.c program without a glitch (spawned more than 150.000
processes). YES!

2)
Well. Possibly hardware-related, but I have problems with the IDE CDrom.
Autofs mounted the disk and said:

Nov 20 17:17:56 pern automount[368]: attempting to mount entry
/rem/cdrom
Nov 20 17:18:07 pern kernel: hdc: timeout waiting for DMA
Nov 20 17:18:07 pern kernel: hdc: irq timeout: status=0x00 { }
Nov 20 17:18:17 pern kernel: hdc: timeout waiting for DMA

Nov 20 17:18:27 pern kernel: hdc: timeout waiting for DMA
Nov 20 17:18:27 pern kernel: hdc: irq timeout: status=0x00 { }
Nov 20 17:18:37 pern kernel: hdc: timeout waiting for DMA
Nov 20 17:18:37 pern kernel: hdc: irq timeout: status=0x00 { }
Nov 20 17:18:37 pern kernel: hdc: DMA disabled
Nov 20 17:18:37 pern kernel: hdc: ATAPI reset complete
Nov 20 17:18:37 pern kernel: ATAPI device hdc:
Nov 20 17:18:37 pern kernel: Error: Unit attention -- (Sense key=0x06)
Nov 20 17:18:37 pern kernel: Power on, reset or bus device reset
occurred -- (asc=0x29, ascq=0x00)

All right, now it's working. But
1) I have hdparm -d0 /dev/hdc in my boot scripts, why it is using DMA?
2) I have DMA disabled because sometime playing audio-cd it says "hdc:
lost interrupt" repeatdly, cdplay stalls in D state,
and then the only solution is a reboot. Shouldn't the driver do a
reset in that case too? [It has not happened to 2.1.129, yet. Is
there someone interested if this happens again?]

3)
And (do not kill me:) why with vga=ask and then entering 303 I have a
nice fb console and saying directly vga=303 at command line (or in
lilo) does not work?

Hey, it seems that 2.1.129 is really looking well.
