2.1.129 sound - mad16 low pitched

In my first test of sound since 2.1.125, I'm getting very low-pitched/slow
(but otherwise apparently correct) sound out of all tests except the CD player,
which stopped getting anything at all through the sound card. Quake and
RealPlayer worked but with low pitch, as did xgalaga's sound server and bplay.

I run the DOS opti933 "sndinit" with every boot before I loadlin into
linux. This appears to be necessary to set up the card. I know very
little else about this card. But all the above used to work. I got this
far through trial and error, not through any sort of understanding of the
various chipsets versus my card. Someday I'll just give in and buy
genuine Creative Sound Blasters, but I thought I finally had a working
alternative here. Any feedback on possible misconfiguration or other
clues why this might be happening is appreciated. If this does look like
a kernel bug, I am willing to reverse chunks of patches to test, just tell
me what's relevant.

Thanks
