ATAPI CDROM Problems?

Hi,

The other day I was listening to a cd in linux 2.1.129 (mainly
because I was feeling to lazy to get up and switch the cd in my stereo
:) with kscd, and I noticed some wierd problems. The cd played fine,
however when I stopped the cd (leaving the cd in the tray), went out for
a bit, and came back, I noticed my hard drive light bright red. It
appears the kernel was flooding syslog with the following message:

ATAPI device hdd:
Error: Illegal request -- (Sense key=0x05)
No additional sense information -- (asc=0x00, ascq=0x00)
The failed "Read Sub-Channel" packet command was:
"42 02 40 01 00 00 00 00 10 00 00 00 "
hdd: packet command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }

hdd: packet command error: error=0x50

Syslog was eating up about 50% of my cpu to writing all these messages
heh. Anyway, at first i tried to play a track in kscd, however that
didn't work. So then I tried to hit the eject button on my cdrom, that
didn't work either. So I hit the eject button on kscd and the cd came
out. I pushed the cd back in, the error messages subsided, and
everything seemed to work fine. I wondered if it was a one time freak
thing, so I decided to listen to a few tracks, then stop playing them,
and leave the cd in the tray. After a few hours, these error messages
returned. Anyone have any idea whats up?

Sincerely,

Nadeem Riaz
