I disagree on this one. It is a problem for me, indeed. But I can imagine
other people who want the same thing: the ability to connect external
(narrow) scsi devices in a flexible way, while internally having some
wide devices. In that case it's not MY specific problem.

You're right about the fact that it's messing up existing systems that
rely on the current SCSI order, I'm aware of that. This can be fixed
however by changing fstab and some boot params. Afterwards the problem
has vanished forever (except when useing older kernels). After this
single change things are flexible however! This means: the ability to
connect external (narrow) devices without having to change fstab every
time you do that. It hurts once, but never again.

A better alternative however might be a reverse SCSI order scanning of
devices.
