Noname Alpha freezes with ad1848 > 2.1.115

I've not heard many details about this per se. Someone can shut
me up right now if this is a known problem with a known solution.

As of recent development kernels, my UDB (as well as other people's Noname
based Alphas) freezes when trying to load the MSS driver (ad1848). The
machine locks up tight, nothing appears in the logs, but the machine still
responds to SysRq commands. After some testing, I was unable to get the
driver to work after 2.1.115. I did try compiling the sound drivers as a
module and built-in, and both seem to give the same behavior.

Unfortunately, after looking briefly at the 2.1.116 patch, it seems there
are a large number of changes to the alpha platform. Is there anything
specific I can do to give you folks better information as to what goes
wrong? (i.e. writing down the output of a certain SysRq command after the
freeze).

One more thing... is there anyone whose Noname DOES work with its built-in
sound card after 2.1.115? Thanks

Chris A
