2.1.131 bombs during aic7xxx init

On my UP PPro/200, I get 3 different sorts of crashes, seemingly dependent on
whether I compile with egcs 1.1b, egcs 1.1.1, or gcc 2.7.2.3. With egcs 1.1b,
I get a panic, with egcs 1.1.1 it locks up at the point where the aic7xxx
driver should be looking for devices (right after the message "scsi : 1
host."), and with gcc 2.7.2.3 I get infinite aborted requests at the same
point, with the disk activity light shining brightly. Everything worked fine
in a 2.1.130 kernel built with egcs 1.1b. There were no changes in the aic7xx
driver between 2.1.130 and 2.1.131.
