if it only happens with X11 switching you probably want to file an
xfree86 bug report. It might be either. Chances are its something X doing
trigging something the kernel shouldnt be doing
Read kbd_mode and see if remtoely running it <>/dev/tty1 etc fixes the
problem after a fail. That'll tell you what confusion occurred.
