Calm down everyone. This is not a case of people saying "this is needed
you go write it" (take a look at the subject line, this thread started
when someone sent in a patch to allow it) this is a case of people saying
"this is needed, here is one way of doing it" with other people saying
"this is a bad idea".

Argue the merits of the proposal, don't start name-calling and spouting
the "if you want it write it" line, people are doing just that.
