Why not just disable anonymous login from ftp.kernel.org and
force people to use mirrors outright. This would give the
mirrors a much better chance of getting the NEW files (what
everyone wants anyways) within an hour instead of within 12-24
hours that it probably is now. I dont know about anyone else but
I want to compile the latest and greatest within an hour or so
of release. I'm sure there are lots of others like that since
ftp.kernel.org gets bogged down almost immediately after a new
kernel patch comes out.

The sad part is that many people are downloading the full
sources because they either have DSL or cable modem access or
better and arn't affected by long donwload waits.
