tcpdump 3.4 with libpcap 0.4 handles ppp quite well since at least 2.1.128.
It doesn't handle the loopback device properly, though (fix sent to the
libpcap maintainers).

Something that has been bothering me is that tcpdump causes the kernel to
report 'hexagon kernel: tcpdump uses obsolete (PF_INET,SOCK_PACKET)',
whenever used for the first time after a boot.
I'd love to fix tcpdump (libpcap, I assume) in that respect, had I known
what the correct call might be.
