I'm enjoying the VM improvements in 2.2.0pre5, but alas, it randomly dies
on me.
The X server gives me a blank grey screen and everything is dead, including
the network (I can't ping my machine anymore after it died).
Yet I'm not doing anything special at the times that it dies, at worst I
did a kernel compile (but I was AFK for a few and the kernel compile might
have finished already before the lockup)
I have done some stress-testing of the VM system with a program that killed
earlier versions (around 2.1.124 I think) and the system survived a much
nastier version (altho X crashed, init did not respond to signals anymore
and ate the CPU, and I was left with lots of zombies. But I could still log
in.)
So this lockup can't be blamed on high system loads. It's also very
sporadic.
The machine is Pentium 200MMX with 64Mb RAM. libc5.4.44
gcc --version: pgcc-2.91.57 (based on egcs 1.1)
compiled with: -mpentium -O2
Other kernel versions have always been working reliably in this
configuration.
