Hello,

I want to report a problem with the aic7xxx-driver in the
2.2.0pre5-Kernel, that I experienced. I have installed an Adaptec 2940
(fast-narrow, BIOS-Revision 1.21) and three SCSI-devices in my
computer. The devices are:

ID 0: IBM DCAS HD
ID 1: IBM DPES HD
ID 2: Plextor CD-ROM

While the pre4 finds all devices and detects the SCSI-IDs correct, the
pre5 finds only the two harddisks, but not the CD-ROM. Furthermore,
the kernel changes the order of the disks and claims, that the DCAS
(ID 0) has multiplied to six harddiscs with IDs 2 to 7.

This is the output from cat /proc/scsi/scsi:

Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 01 Lun: 00
Vendor: IBM Model: DPES-31080 Rev: S31Q
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 02 Lun: 00
Vendor: IBM Model: DCAS-34330 Rev: S60B
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 03 Lun: 00
Vendor: IBM Model: DCAS-34330 Rev: S60B
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 04 Lun: 00
Vendor: IBM Model: DCAS-34330 Rev: S60B
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 05 Lun: 00
Vendor: IBM Model: DCAS-34330 Rev: S60B
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 06 Lun: 00
Vendor: IBM Model: DCAS-34330 Rev: S60B
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 07 Lun: 00
Vendor: IBM Model: DCAS-34330 Rev: S60B
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02

Although I do not know, whether it has something to do with the pre5:

I experienced twice a problem with the generated kernel-binaries. These
kernels refused to unzip with the error message "crc error". (I had no
problems with the reliability of the disk up to now, so I don't
believe, that it is a hardware-problem.)
