[1.] One line summary of the problem:

Kernel modules fail to load due to unresolved symbols.

[2.] Full description of the problem/report:

The kernel modules fail to load, giving error messages
stating that they contain unresolved symbols.

When one tries to manually load a module one gets:

kernel_version needed, but can't be found

uname -a gets:

Linux ItMightBeAServer 2.2.0-pre6 #4 Tue Jan 12 17:35:46 EST 1999 i586

[3.] Keywords (i.e., modules, networking, kernel):

Modules

[4.] Kernel version (from /proc/version):

$cat /proc/version

Linux version 2.2.0-pre6 (jeremy@ItMightBeAServer) (gcc version
2.7.2.1) #4 Tue Jan 12 17:35:46 EST 1999

[5.] Output of Oops.. message (if applicable) with symbolic information
resolved (see Documentation/oops-tracing.txt)

N/A

[6.] A small shell script or example program which triggers the
problem (if possible)

insmod lp #This should do it...works for me...or, doesn't <G>

[7.] Environment

[7.1.] Software (add the output of the ver_linux script here)

# sh scripts/ver_linux
