autoconf's configure and 2.2.0pre9

When running autoconf generated configure scripts on 2.2.0pre9,
I've occasionally seen it generating corrupt Makefile's.
Those corrupt Makefiles always contained fragments of preprocessed
C sources. I haven't seen this on 2.0. All files are
on local ext2 partitions.
