Because the "unknown" string has nothing todo with the NIS domain. It's the
string for the processor type (uname -p) which is not supported under Linux
also it would make sense (for x86: arch=i386 and cpu-type=<detected processor>,
same for alpha: arch=alpha cpu-type=lca4) ...
