hostid(1) User Commands hostid(1)

NAME
hostid - print the numeric identifier of the current host

SYNOPSIS
/usr/bin/hostid

AVAILABILITY
SUNWcsu

DESCRIPTION
The hostid command prints the identifier of the current host
in hexadecimal. This numeric value is likely to differ when
hostid is run on a different machine.

siva% whoami
george
siva% ls -l /usr/bin/hostid
-r-xr-xr-x 1 bin 2940 May 2 1996 /usr/bin/hostid
siva% hostid
80816e38
siva%

No particular superuser requirements here.
