Works like a charm here on my system (SuperMicro P6DBE, 1.5 BIOS).

[before bios upgrade]

[after upgrade, before patch]
Memory: 64344k/66556k available (876k kernel code, 420k reserved, 916k
data, 0k init)

[after patch]

A little less memory than before (452K to be exact). If I boot with
mem=196608k
everything's fine (so the memory is really there).
