Not booting

[2.] Full description of the problem/report:

After compiling kernel 2.2.5, running lilo & restarting, The kernel
uncompresses ok, I get the message all`s ok, and booting kernel, nothing
happens for 30 seconds, then lots of disk activity, followed by a reboot.
