2.2.8 SMP won't boot: lost interrupt

Hi! I am trying 2.2.8 SMP (gcc 2.7.2.3) and it hangs in the partition check on
my ide drive on the secondary controller. Keep getting "hdc: lost interrupt"
messages.

Sounds like it's related to the interrupt changes that went into 2.2.8.
2.2.7 boots fine. Any ideas?
