As for the hardware problem...it happens the same in Win95 and Linux/XFree
so I'm trying to narrow it down. Maybe it is related though. Anyway,
every now and then when I click the mouse or am clicking and dragging, say
in Netscape or the Gimp or now maybe StarOffice, the machine locks hard.
Same happens in Win95. I've replaced the PS, case, nic, processor, mobo,
ram, mouse and ide cdrom since this started happening. I've pulled the 3d
accelerator and modem...no difference. Swapped the graphics adaptor for
an identical one (working in its systme) and played with older video bios
versions from Matrox. All to no avail. This didn't happen prior to around
last summer at a time when no new hardware was added. Anyway, while word
processing in StarOffice I got this hangup once, although I think the oops
message was from another StarOfice crash (can't be sure though).
