Most, if not all DSP chips have no MMUs (memory management units).
http://www.elks.ecs.soton.ac.uk/cgi-bin/ELKS/ is the home page of the
"embeddable linux kernel subset" project, who are trying to put Linux on
machines without MMUs. That could give you an idea of the difficulty of
your project.
