I beleive LILO passes root= to the kernel, forcing the issue on every
boot. I've been doing this since 2.0, crossing machines, ide/scsi
whatever and havn't ever had a problem (well except for if I got confused
and put an IDE kernel with no SCSI drivers on a SCSI machine ;)
