2.2.12 compile probs?

Anyone else got a very odd compile problem with 2.2.12? I always get a
- have tried multiple configurations. Has anyone else suffered this
problem? system is running gcc 2.7.2.3 on libc5.

At my wits end here, but haven't seen any announcements from other people
so checking if it's me going mad.
