2.0.38 and SPARC

Can I use the stock 2.0.38 kernel in a Sparc. I can't upgrade known and old
SparcStation to a distro that can use 2.2.x kernel, and I don't know if the
stock kernel could compile. Maybe I need some patches of CVS :?
