Just got my machine past 2.3.12 to 2.3.18, and noticed the following
during boot/log:

Uniform Multi-Platform E-IDE driver Revision: 6.20
hda: ST3550A, ATA DISK drive
hdb: WDC AC31200F, ATA DISK drive
hdc: ST51080A, ATA DISK drive
hdd: WDC AC2420H, ATA DISK drive
ide2: ports already in use, skipping probe
ide6: ports already in use, skipping probe
ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14
ide1 at 0x170-0x177,0x376 on irq 15
hda: ST3550A, 431MB w/256kB Cache, CHS=1018/14/62
hdb: WDC AC31200F, 1222MB w/64kB Cache, CHS=2484/16/63
hdc: ST51080A, 1033MB w/256kB Cache, CHS=2100/16/63
hdd: WDC AC2420H, 405MB w/128kB Cache, CHS=989/15/56
Floppy drive(s): fd0 is 1.44M, fd1 is 1.2M

Also had 10 messages on screen:
Request_module[ide-probe]: Root fs not mounted

Question: Is ide6 a valid number, and if so, what about 3,4, and 5?

System is i486 and has no pci bus (none configured).
All ide configured in (no modules).
