can't locate module net-pf-1

Hello....I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm running v2.2.5 on a UP
Compaq and after recompiling the system and rebooting, I get scrolling
errors of
modprobe: can't locate module net-pf-1
and the system will not boot.
What does this mean?
