2.3.22 hangs starting pcmcia

2.3.22pre3 works fine.
pcmcia-cs-3.1.1
modutils-2.3.5
gcc-2.95.1
glibc-2.1.2
binutils-2.9.5.0.16
serial built as module, and that appears to be where it hangs.
Hard reset required.
