Your guess is wrong.
I have PnP disabled and transceiver set to BNC *on* the card (with the 3com
utility) - and yes, I do have bnc/coax and not UTP.
The 3com driver detects all the parameters correctly, altough I don't know what
"tag 1" stands for.
