With some obvious simple programming errors pointed out by Alexey
Kuznetsov (sp?) I think it is working much better now. A second pair
of eyes seems to have been the fix. On to bigger and better...

Next on the list is to try to get the userspace process to be
signalled that there is a message waiting for it.
