I use the NE2000 PCI driver together with a RTL8029 based card. I have used
that card with Linux intensivly and without problems for almost two years.
Other information about the system:

* Pentium 150 Mhz
* Has been turned on for weeks now
* The other netcard in the machine is an RTL8139 based card and I have had
some initial problems with it though not fatal and they seem to have
dissapeard
* It has a ZyXEL modem permanently attached to it which is used as an
answer-machine
* It has 48Mb of RAM

I will try to issolate the problem further now where you say it looks
impossible.
