Yes, it would be nice if it booted on a 'typical' PC system.
These are a lot less variable than they used to be.
But there are a few ethernet drivers and things like USB disk
support that are somewhat useful.
Typical 'distro' kernels contain a lot of things most
people don't need - especially a lot of modules.
It'd be nice to have somewhere else to start from.
