[PATCH net v3] llc: shut down timers before dropping SAP and device references

From: Miguel García Román

Date: Fri Oct 16 2026 - 09:16:27 EST

syzbot reports a slab-use-after-free in
llc_conn_ac_send_sabme_cmd_p_set_x() when a connection timer dereferences
its SAP after the last socket reference has been dropped.

llc_ui_release() holds an extra SAP reference for release_sock(), but
drops it before llc_sk_free() stops the connection timers. If this was
the last socket using the SAP, llc_sap_close() can RCU-free it while a
timer callback is still running.

Keep the extra SAP reference until llc_sk_free() has completed. Use
timer_shutdown_sync() for final teardown: a fixed-order pass with
timer_delete_sync() permits a callback or concurrent state-machine
action to rearm an earlier timer. Keep the device reference through
timer shutdown and queue purge as well, since timer actions can use
llc->dev. The non-final timer stop path retains timer_delete().

v3:
- Keep SAP and device references until after final timer shutdown.
- Use timer_shutdown_sync() to prevent cross-timer rearming.
- Remove the separate unlocked timer stop from llc_ui_release().
- Reproduced the KASAN report on the unpatched kernel; the patched
kernel completed five reproducer runs without a KASAN report.
- syzbot reproduced the UAF on the unpatched control. Two patched
jobs built successfully, but their C reproducer aborted at bind()
with EBUSY, so no Tested-by tag is included.
