Wrong ;-) You could do that from an initrd. Or, if my umount-root patch
gets accepted, you could just (*) transition to a temporary root elsewhere
(e.g. a ramdisk), then back.
(* at least after spending some time moving that fsck to a more convenient
place in the boot process :-)
