Might I suggest that the kernel prints

        if (drive->cylinders > 65536) {
                printk (" Warning!! HDIO_GETGEO called on drive with > 65536 cyls. (Use cfdisk instead)\n");
                /* Set return cylinders to 65536. */

        }
