Kernel 2.0 did not have SMP as a CONFIG_ option. You should get a 2.2
kernel as it has vastly improved SMP performance. Slackware 3.3 and 3.6
are old enough that they probably have security problems; so you should
probably just install a new distribution which would come with a newer
kernel.
