same here on 2.2.13. It seems that mine happened as a result of a SCSI
error on a flaky HDD -- there are a nice flood of scsidisk errors in the
log around the same time that this process went ballistic. Odd that it'd
get stuck in R and not D, though. It quite happily survives kill -9.
