Alpha DP264, uniprocessor version.
I cold-booted the system this morning, and the floppy didn't work. I
recompiled it as a module, rebooted; it still didn't work, and it
produced this:
Apr 3 10:08:59 holly kernel: inserting floppy driver for 2.3.99-pre3
Apr 3 10:08:59 holly kernel: Floppy drive(s): fd0 is 2.88M
Apr 3 10:09:02 holly kernel: floppy0: no floppy controllers found
Apr 3 10:09:02 holly insmod: /lib/modules/2.3.99-pre3/block/floppy.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
Apr 3 10:09:02 holly insmod: /lib/modules/2.3.99-pre3/block/floppy.o: insmod block-major-2 failed
I rebooted 2.2.15, floppy worked. Then rebooted 2.3.99-pre3, floppy
worked.
Apr 3 10:14:40 holly kernel: inserting floppy driver for 2.2.15pre13
Apr 3 10:14:40 holly kernel: Floppy drive(s): fd0 is 2.88M
Apr 3 10:14:40 holly kernel: FDC 0 is a post-1991 82077
...
Apr 3 10:20:28 holly kernel: inserting floppy driver for 2.3.99-pre3
Apr 3 10:20:28 holly kernel: Floppy drive(s): fd0 is 2.88M
Apr 3 10:20:28 holly kernel: FDC 0 is a post-1991 82077
So 2.2.15 is doing some initialization that 2.3.99-pre3 is failing to do.

chemical forces are used in repetitious fashion to produce all
kinds of weird effects (one of which is the author)."
