All 2.3.99 series kernels seems to kill my ability to run tape
backup on my box.
That's SMP (2xPII-400) ASUS P2B-DS with additional 53c810a card
and Exabyte EXB-8900 (Mammoth) attached to this card. When I start
writing the tape (Arkeia or tar, doesn't matter) strange things
happen: machine becomes sluggish, using swap more and more while
the amount of cached memory stays the same. Then the box just dies,
having eaten some huge swapspace (like 250-400 megs), even though
it has 512MB RAM and normally uses just about 350MB out of it,
including 250MB in cached mem.
2.3.49pre2 seems not to have this problem.
