I was afraid of that too :-(

unfortunately it is not! That is the issue here. My scsi
scanner was fine at 20MB/sec and probably could have gone
faster, however my scsi cd-rw tried to run at 10MB/sec and
errored out and would not finish burning cdroms (cdrecord -dummy
and actually tried burning one and it failed miserably). I have
changed the setting in the kernel to 5MB/sec and now the cd-rw
burns fine, although it takes 15 minutes or so to burn 650 MB.

Also becuase of this change my scanner takes longer. I am afraid
of how long it will take to scan images at 900dpi with this
change.

AFAIK the cable is a standard grey cable with 1 red line.

The cd-rw is device 5 on the scsi bus and the scanner is device
6.

The cd-rw is the terminating device.

My hard drives are EIDE on a PCI interface, how do I find out if
they are causing the scsi timeout that I get at speeds higher
than 5MB/sec?

How can I make the driver smart enough so that when it sees my
hp 9210i cd-rw it sets the speed at 5MB/sec, but when it sees my
scanner it negotiates at 20MB/sec?

What I don't understand is that the cd-rw seems to work fine for
about 10 to 20 Meg at 10MB/sec but after that it errors out.

Something I should mention is that I am using the ncr53c8xx as a
module and also the sr_mod as a module for the cd-rw. Also the
scanner and cd-rw do not have to be working at the same time.
(I am never going to try to scan-to-burn).

The scanner is not always on.

Any suggestion of what I should be looking for? What affects the
speed of my scsi bus and cd writing?

Joe
