PROBLEM: Linux SCSI Reset With Tekram DC390-U2W and NCR/SYM Drivers

[1.] One line summary of the problem: Linux resets the SCSI bus fairly often
with the Tekram DC390-U2W.

[2.] Full description of the problem/report: Linux resets the SCSI bus
(seemingly at random times) due to what is apparently an error with it getting
the status on my CD-R drive. I've attached output from /var/log/messages and
dmesg that are from a reset I've just experienced.

[3.] Keywords (i.e., modules, networking, kernel): kernel, scsi

[4.] Kernel version (from /proc/version): Linux version 2.2.14-5.0
(root@porky.devel.redhat.com) (gcc version egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux
(egcs-1.1.2 release)) #1 Tue Mar 7 21:07:39 EST 2000

[5.] Output of Oops.. message (if applicable) with symbolic information
     resolved (see Documentation/oops-tracing.txt): N/A

[6.] A small shell script or example program which triggers the
problem (if possible): N/A (Sometimes after the CD-R has spun down,
however, and a program spins it up again (accesses it), a reset will happen. I'm
not sure if this is the case 100% of the time).

[7.] Environment: Fresh Red Hat 6.2 install; seems to happen in Red Hat most
frequently but has happened in Slackware 7, and Debian "freeze." DOES NOT appear
to happen in FreeBSD 4.0-RELEASE, Windows NT4 SP6a, or Windows 98 First Edition.

[7.1.] Software (add the output of the ver_linux script here)
