The bigphysarea patch for 2.2.x reserves a large region of contiguous
physical memory (such as 4MB or more) for use by drivers like
framegrabbers, which need a lot of physical memory. Is it possible to
accomplish the same thing in 2.4.0 without this patch? (and without
mem=XX command line hacks)
The Utah-GLX project uses the mem=XX hack as one of its possible DMA
strategies, so it seems like a generally useful feature to have in
2.4.0.
