Dave, you would obviously have to modifiy sysvinit or use
a different init program, perhaps one that would mount /dev, open
/dev/console, and then exec /sbin/sysvinit (no need for any
special kernel support like linuxrc or "preinit=" for this).
Anyhow, I probably will not be able to prioritize additional
time to respond to your further messages in this thread. I have
expressed my reasoning in a way which I think everyone else
seems to understand. So, if any of the primary kernel maintainers is
seriously considering putting preinit= into the stock kernels, and has
questions for me about why I think it's just a bit of extra bloat doing
something that can be done just as well from user land, I will be happy
to discuss that. Otherwise, I will be happy to leave Dave with the last
word, with the understanding that silence does not imply agreement.
