Yes, I've used 2.2.10-2.2.15 on that machine with that card without incident
(before that I had a different network card).

I've done so and I'm now running the hybrid kernel. That seems to fix all the
errors.
FWIW, running stock 2.2.16 on a similar Athlon setup with a 3Com 3c905B Cyclone
*without* the BNC and AUI interfaces (dmesg info below) on a web server I'm in
charge of has generated no problems. This is on a separate physical network
though.
Here's the info on the card that works with 2.2.16:
3c59x.c:v0.99H 27May00 Donald Becker http://cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov/linux/drivers/vortex.html
eth0: 3Com 3c905B Cyclone 100baseTx at 0xd000, 00:10:5a:c9:44:0e, IRQ 12
8K byte-wide RAM 5:3 Rx:Tx split, autoselect/Autonegotiate interface.
MII transceiver found at address 24, status 782d.
Enabling bus-master transmits and whole-frame receives.
If this really is a bug, I'm willing to help test any patches or perform any
tests that anyone asks.
Thanks!
